With its intuitive interface and robust features, it provides users with the ability to capture and playback mouse movements, clicks, and keystrokes, offering valuable insights into computer usage patterns.
You can download and install MouseKey Recorder for Mac setup file from the button below
The downloaded file is a .dmg file. Double-click it to open the installation window, like the one pictured below:
To install the app on your Mac you need to drag the program icon to the Applications folder. Then open your Mac's Applications folder and look for the MouseKey Recorder icon. If you double-click on that icon you will notice that a window opens with the following error message (developer not verified).
To bypass this block, instead of double-clicking you will need to right-click the MouseKey Recorder icon and confirm that you want to open the program. Here is the main interface you will see appear on the screen:
How to register Mouse and Keyboard
To start recording your activities click on CREATE NEW MACRO. The first thing you will be asked to do is to give the app permission to monitor and record mouse and keyboard activities.
Click OK and the Privacy and Security settings window will automatically open. Here you will need to enable permissions for the AdvancedMouseKeyRecorder app as highlighted in the figure above (make sure to move the cursor to the right to activate the permissions, you will be asked for your Mac password to complete the operation).
Once this is done you can return to the program and the window from which you can start recording your activities.
At the bottom right is a red RECORD button. By clicking on it you can record the macro you want. A warning will remind you to press CONTROL + Q at the same time to stop recording at any time.
After clicking OK you can proceed with recording activities: all mouse movements, clicks and keystrokes will be recorded by the program. You can stop recording by pressing CONTROL+Q
NOTE 1. Double-clicking to open an app or opening a folder cannot be recorded. As an alternative to double-clicking, we recommend right-clicking on that app or folder and then selecting OPEN. This way MouseKey Recorder will be able to record everything.
NOTE 2. If you want to record the selection of a text we recommend that you click on the initial position of that text, press the Shift key and then click on the final position. This will select the text (and the selection will be recorded by MouseKey Recorder). At this point you can also copy and paste by pressing the Command+C and Command+V keys.
How to edit and save a Macro on your Mac (Mouse & Keyboard)
At the end of the recording, the macro will be automatically stored in the program and all the actions will appear in the central window of the software, grouped under the headings MOUSE, KEYBOARD, based on their type.
By clicking on PLAY at the bottom right you can play it immediately. Even in this case you can stop playback by pressing CTRL+Q at the same time. At the top there are also the parameters that allow you to play a macro a certain number of times and at a greater speed (1 is the standard value, 5 is the value to play the macro at maximum speed).
Note: with the DEMO version it is possible to set a maximum of 5 as the macro repetition value.
If everything is OK click on the SAVE button to save the macro to your computer in an .armp format file
If there is anything you need to change, just use the built-in editor.
Click on the action to modify (press the + symbol to open the action detail and look for the one to modify or remove).
If you want to remove an action, just select it and then press the DELETE EVENTS button at the bottom right
MouseKey Recorder Advanced also allows you to add post-recording actions. Just click on the action button to add.
ADD TIMER EVENT: allows you to add a pause within the macro. It is also possible to add a pause that ends when you type a certain preset key
ADD SYSTEM EVENT: allows you to automate the opening of a file or app on your Mac. In addition to executing the file, it also allows it to be closed.
You will also be able to add mouse movements (ADD MOUSE EVENTS), type keyboard keys (ADD KEYBOARD EVENTS).
After each change to the macro we recommend pressing PLAY to play it and check the result. If everything is as desired, press SAVE to save.
How to Play a Macro with MouseKey Recorder
To play a macro that you have recorded, simply click PLAY.
In addition to the number of repetitions and playback speed, you can also set a "post play" action. For example, you can lock your Mac, log out, or put your Mac to sleep (black screen).
Remember that you can always stop the automation and playback of a macro at any time using the CTRL + Q key combination.
NB: With the free version of the program it is possible to set the maximum value of 5 as the number of automatic repetitions for the macro.
How to Open a Saved Macro from Mac
If you want to play a macro that you saved on your computer (previously), all you have to do is click on OPEN on the app home screen and then select the macro file (.armp format).
After importing the macro click on the PLAY button to start playback. The macro will play the number of times you save.
How to schedule a macro
The “SCHEDULER” function is very important if you want to make the program work even in your absence. For example, if you want to play tasks that take several hours of time, you can set the schedule so that everything starts on a certain day, at a certain time. All you have to do is click on SCHEDULER and a window will open where you can import the macro to program. Press on ADD MACRO and load the macro file (.armp)
Then set the month, day, start time of the macro. In addition to the exact day and time, you can also set the start so that the macro starts, for example, every day at the same time, or every week, and so on.
Once everything is set up, click SAVE and the programming will appear saved in the program. A sort of countdown will also appear on the right which allows you to check that everything has been set correctly
NB: Remember to press SAVE SCHEDULER at the bottom to save the set schedule. Furthermore, the program must always remain open for scheduling to work correctly!
